BLACKBURN OUT OF PROMOTION PICTURE

Blackburn Rovers are out of the Premier League promotion picture after they were thrashed 3-0 at home by Bournemouth last weekend. Blackburn Rovers went into the Bournemouth game needing a win to stay alive for the playoffs in the English Championship. They had been ruled out of the two automatic spots for promotion into the Premier League ahead of next seasonbefore they faced the Cherries at home on Saturday and needed a win to stay in contention. In the end, they could not stay in contention for Premier League promotion via the playoffs after the heavy home loss at the hands of Scott Parker and his Bournemouth players.

Just like what was obtainable with Blackburn Rovers, Bournemouth were also in Premier League promotion picture before the 1-0 home win over Nottingham Forest ensured that they picked one of the two automatic promotion spots alongside Fulham. The Championship title has already been won by Fulham after the big victory over Luton Town earlier in the week. To this effect, Bournemouth are guaranteed to finish in second spot irrespective of what happens in the last set of games in the Championship this weekend.

For the away game against Blackburn Rovers, Dominic Solanke scored the first goal of the game just before the midway point of the first half. His goal gave Bournemouth a 1-0 lead at the end of the first half. The points were sealed with the second half brace from Philip Billing within the space of nine minutes. Billing added a second goal on 70 minutes before his 79th minute strike wrapped up the emphatic 3-0 win.

The first two teams have already been determined while there’s a lot to play for as regards the playoff spots. Millwall still have a chance to qualify for the playoffs ahead of their last game at Bournemouth, while Blackburn Rovers are guests of Birmingham City.
