Blackburn Rovers manager Tony Mowbray has given an update on the injury status of important defender Derrick Williams. In his latest update on the injury to Derrick Williams via the Lancashire Telegraph, Tony Mowbray said he doesn’t want to put a timeframe on his comeback.
Republic of Ireland international Derrick Williams had surgery several weeks and it was revealed by Tony Mowbray that the player could miss the rest of the season shortly after undergoing the said injury but the player has stepped up his recovery alongside the Blackburn Rovers medical team to hint that he could return to action before the present season runs out. Derrick Williams would be a free agent in the coming months as his Blackburn Rovers contract expires in the summer. Blackburn Rovers have dealt well with several injuries in their defence this season.
Derrick Williams is not the only long-term absentee in the Blackburn Rovers defence. Scott Wharton is also recovering from a long-term injury, while Daniel Ayala has also been injured for some weeks but his own injury is not long-term. Derrick Williams played his last game for Blackburn Rovers against Norwich City in December 2020 in what was a Championship clash.
Blackburn Rovers made a big move to solve their defensive crisis by signing Jarrod Braithwaite on loan from Premier League team Everton. Jarrod Braithwaite has played the last three games in the league alongside DarraghLenihan and then Taylor Harwood-Bellis, who’s on loan from another Premier League team in Manchester City. Taylor Harwood-Bellis and Jarrod Braithwaite have embraced the opportunity to play regular football at Blackburn Rovers after the two players rarely got a look-in at Manchester City and Everton respectively. Before Republic of Ireland player Derrick Williams got injured, he formed a very good centre back partnership with DarraghLenihan.
