English Championship outfit Blackburn Rovers are in talks to sign Peterborough United attacker Sammie Szmodics according to sources close to Football Insider. It was reported that Szmodics is on the verge of signing for the former Premier League holders in a £2.5m deal.
Versatile attacker Szmodics was unable to prevent Peterborough United from suffering demotion to League One from the Championship despite scoring seven goals in 39 appearances in all competitions.
Szmodics has featured in the English Championship for two teams including Peterborough United. His first experience of Championship footballwas at Bristol City during the 2019/20 season. He played three times for Bristol City before he was sent on loan to Peterborough United. Blackburn Rovers are keen to secure Premier League promotion at the end of the new season and they are set to strengthentheir attack with Szmodics. The former Premier League winners have a new manager in Jon Dahl Tomasson following his appointment this summer. Tomasson replaced Tony Mowbray as the Blackburn Rovers manager this summer.
The aforementioned Blackburn Rovers target is a consistent performer in the lower leagues of English football with 54 goals and 27 assists in almost 200 games in Leagues One and Two. Szmodics has two years left on his current deal with Peterborough and he could be the third signing at Blackburn Rovers.
