Luck, it seems, is definitely not on the side of Blackburn Rovers. Not only are they struggling at the wrong end of the English Premier League but they are also failing in their attempts to hold on to two of their star players, attacking player Junior Hoilett and defender Christopher Samba.
Hoilett is one of the most exciting youngsters currently playing in the Premiership after he burst onto the scene last season with some stellar performances for the side. Now, reports have emerged that the young Canadian player has declined to put pen to paper on a new long term deal that will keep him at Ewood Park for the next five years.
Christopher Samba was already a lost case back during the summer transfer window when many of the big guns in the English game including Arsenal and Liverpool swooped for the defender but somehow, their moves did not materialize but it seems that Samba is almost certain to leave Blackburn Rovers once the winter transfer market opens on the 1st of January. His likely destination might as well be the Emirates Stadium and Arsenal with Arsene Wenger willing to pay almost £15 million for him.
However, the loss of Hoilett will be the one that will hurt Rovers the most as he is in the last season of his current contract and it leaves him the opportunity to enter into talks with potential suitors and sign a pre-contract in January before leaving in August, with Rovers getting minimum compensation for a player they rate over £ 20 million. With the likes of Michel Salgado, Ryan Nelsen all struggling for form and Steve Kean desperately failing in his attempts to keep the dressing room united and the board on his side, it seems that this will be a very difficult season for Blackburn Rovers.
