CHAMPIONSHIP: BLACKBURN ON FIVE-MATCH WINLESS RUN

Blackburn Rovers are on a run of five games without a win in the English Championship ahead of their game with Preston North End on Monday. Blackburn Rovers can boost their hopes of making the playoffs by beating Preston away from home. The one-time Premier League champions have not won a game since the 3-1 home win over relegated Derby County in the middle of last month. Since the game against the Rams, Blackburn Rovers have failed to beat Reading, Coventry City and Peterborough United away from home plus both Stoke City and Blackpool at home.

Earlier this year, it looked like Blackburn Rovers would challenge the likes of Bournemouth and Fulham for an automatic slot to the Premier League before poor form in the last few months removed the club from the playoff places.

Blackburn Rovers are already out of the running for an automatic promotion slot and can only go through the playoffs if they want to play Premier League football next season. The playoff spot is still achievable for manager Tony Mowbray and his players as they are just three points adrift of Sheffield United who occupy sixth spot, the last playoff spot. Blackburn fans would be hoping that the Lancashire Derby with Preston at the start of next week can kickstart their quest for Premier League promotion.

Ahead of the Preston game, various media outlets have reported that experienced midfielder Bradley Johnson will most likely leave Blackburn Rovers this summer when his contract at the club expires. The 34-year-old has made 18 appearances for the club in the Championship this season. Also, shot stopper Joe Hilton might leave Blackburn Rovers this summer as he’s keen to stay at Hamilton Academical where he’s presently on loan from Blackburn Rovers. The 22-year-old wants to turn his loan deal into a permanent deal at Scottish club Hamilton this summer.
